Tim Flanagan was born on October 17, 1946, in Rockland, Maine, as one of nine children to James and Eileen Flanagan. Raised in a close-knit family, he learned the values of hard work and generosity early in life.
After graduating from Rockland High School in 1964, Tim was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, where he attended the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point. He later pursued his education at Gorham State Teachers College (now the University of Southern Maine), where he met his wife and lifelong partner, Judy.

A Career in Education and Coaching
Tim began his teaching career at Westbrook High School in 1971 before joining Wiscasset High School in 1977. Over more than four decades, he became a cornerstone of the school community, earning the respect and admiration of students, colleagues, and parents alike.
In the classroom, “Mr. Flanagan” provided not only academic knowledge but also life lessons in character, work ethic, and perseverance. As a coach, Tim’s talents were unparalleled. His most notable achievement came in 1991 when he guided the Wiscasset boys’ basketball team to its first-ever state championship, a proud moment in the school’s history.
Tim coached a variety of sports, including cross-country, golf, tennis, baseball, and even led the school’s math team to several state championships. His ability to inspire students and athletes cemented his legacy as a mentor who brought out the best in everyone.
A Passion for Golf
Golf was a lifelong passion for Tim, cultivated during his childhood at Megunticook Golf Club, where his father served as the club professional.
Tim’s golfing accomplishments included winning the Maine Junior Championship in 1964 and the Maine State Father/Son Championship in 2007. A frequent club champion at Rockland Golf Club and other courses, Tim viewed golf not only as a sport but also as a platform to instill values of integrity, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
