Growing up as one of eight children, he was raised in a home that instilled strong values of faith, discipline, and compassion — qualities that guided him throughout his life.
James’s dedication to service began early and led him to an honorable six-year tenure in the United States Air Force, where he specialized in cryptographic maintenance. His meticulous work in this highly technical and sensitive field demonstrated his precision, integrity, and deep patriotism during a critical era for national security.

His guidance shaped countless young lives, inspiring many to pursue careers in engineering, design, and information technology.
A Devoted Family Man
James’s personal life was equally rich and full. He shared a 50-year loving marriage with his wife, Melba Adams DeLozier, with whom he recently celebrated their golden anniversary — a testament to their enduring partnership and shared faith.
He took immense pride and joy in his daughter, Amy DeLozier Opetich, her husband Eric, and their daughters Cameron, Alyse, and Olivia. Affectionately known as “Papa,” James cherished every moment spent with his granddaughters, playing an active and loving role in their lives.
James maintained close bonds with his extended family, including his mother-in-law Ruth Adams, his sisters Helen Bratcher, Maudine West, and Marilyn Cude, and his brothers David (Sherley) DeLozier and Philip (Lee) DeLozier. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Noel, and Paul DeLozier.
