Born on April 8, 1948, Richard grew up on his family farm in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church, forming close bonds with his four sisters during his early years. Known by affectionate nicknames such as “Carp,” “T-Bird,” and “Julio,” Richard was loved for his humor and fun-loving nature.

A long-time member of the American Legion and Kvitesid Lutheran Church, Richard was deeply committed to his community.
