Remembering Brenda Correa: A Life Cut Short, A Legacy of Love and Compassion
April was born on April 14, 1961, in Skowhegan, Maine, to George and Loren (Martin) Chase. From an early age, she demonstrated a quiet strength and endless kindness that would define her entire life. Raised in a close-knit family that valued compassion, resilience, and dedication to one another, April carried these values into every part of her life.
She was someone who gave of herself freely, shared love without hesitation, and nurtured her connections with warmth and sincerity.
Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Family Pillar
April’s life centered around her family, and she found her greatest joy in being a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Whether she was celebrating birthdays, hosting family dinners, or sitting on the porch laughing and sharing stories, April made each person feel seen, heard, and deeply loved. Her home was a gathering place where warmth and laughter flowed freely, and everyone who entered felt a sense of comfort and belonging.
A Heart for the Community
April’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family. She was known as someone who always offered a kind word, a listening ear, or a comforting hug. She was the neighbor who checked in on others, the friend who always showed up when needed, and the beloved presence who gave selflessly without expecting anything in return.
Her gentle nature and infectious laughter were her signature — her presence was like a warm embrace that brightened even the darkest days.
A Calling of Care and Compassion
In her professional life, April dedicated many years to elder care, where she made a lasting impact on countless lives. Her work was not just a job but a true calling that she fulfilled with grace, dignity, and deep compassion.
April’s natural empathy and caring nature made her an extraordinary caregiver. She didn’t just provide care — she offered comfort, solace, and genuine human connection during vulnerable moments. Her devotion to her work reflected her loving heart and her profound desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Finding Joy in Simple Pleasures
Outside of work and family, April found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved gardening, and the sight of her flourishing plants and flowers was a testament to her patience, care, and nurturing spirit.
Spring was her favorite season, allowing her to connect with nature and enjoy its beauty. April also loved birdwatching from her kitchen window, finding peace in the gentle activity outside. She cherished long scenic drives along the Maine coast, taking in the breathtaking views and the serenity of nature.
A quiet morning with a strong cup of coffee, or the thoughtful ritual of sending handwritten birthday cards filled with heartfelt words, brought her immense happiness.
A Legacy of Love
April’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and the power of giving. She touched every life she encountered, and the memories she created will live on forever. Her warmth, her caring spirit, and her ability to make others feel valued were qualities that set her apart.
She never sought attention or recognition for her acts of kindness — she simply gave of herself, without expecting anything in return. Her legacy is one of deep love for her family, her community, and for life itself.
Cherished Family
April is survived by her beloved children, Melissa Chase-Saucier (and husband Daniel Bennett) of Winslow, ME, and Jonathan Chase of Augusta, ME. She was a proud grandmother to Lily, Jacob, and Emma, who were the light of her life.
She also leaves behind her sister, Denise Carrington of Clinton, ME, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will continue to honor her memory by living with the same grace, kindness, and compassion she showed each day.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Chase.
Honoring April’s Life
A celebration of April’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Waterville, ME. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a reception and time of sharing, where they can come together to remember and celebrate a remarkable woman.
During this time of grief, we choose to remember April not just for the tragedy of her passing, but for the joy, love, and light she brought into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in April’s memory to the Maine Alzheimer’s Association or a local caregivers’ support organization. This gesture honors April’s lifelong dedication to caring for others, especially the most vulnerable in the community — a fitting tribute to her legacy of love and service.
